This was a new innovation for commercial and residential patio doors and aluminum windows…a train-car load of plywood and glass a week running two shifts and weekends the result.
– Perma Seal purchases equipment, begins manufacturing new tech glass-two glass pieces sealed with air between. The new glazing technology a hermetic sealed double pane insulating unit is four times more efficient than single glass…a golden discovery!
– Perma Seal develops window systems to lead the west into new windows offering more efficient, dual-pane glass technology in manufactured windows-insulating glass!

– In Edmonton, a void of firms capable of heritage restoration existed to provide us an opportunity. A large historic project is offered Gord by former City Councilor, Gene Dub-Architect, to rehabilitate the 244 wood windows in his newly acquired structure, the McLeod Building. Our shop begins producing product to rehabilitate the 244 oak wood windows. Removal of a century of built-up layers of flaking lead-based paint and varnish was undertaken, and at our shop, replica sash and components were fabricated converting original oak window sash from single pane glass, to more efficient, dual pane insulating units with new long-term finishes applied inside and out.
– Gordon Gauvin begins expansion of historic rehabilitation operations with the hiring of several industry certified craftsmen to begin training apprentices drawn from NAIT’s cabinetry/cabinet-maker program.
– Perma Seal’s capabilities expanded in the two years following, and the “stable” of craftsmen in various stages of training, allowed expansion of our firm’s capabilities to assess, plan and execute window restorations in the provincially designated historic grain elevators in both, Mayerthorpe and Leduc.
